When
As the chance of aurora borealis appearance
in winter is higher than that in summer time, so we are planning to leave on
December 23, 2012, and coming back on December 28, 2012. During this period, we
had just finished our final exams and it’s time to enjoy a fantastic Christmas
vacation rather than staying in London, even though the price will be higher
than the other periods, that worth it!
Who
I will be travelling with my boyfriend this
time. Watching the aurora borealis with him must be a sweet and romantic
memory!
Why
There are several reasons to visit
Yellowknife. Firstly, viewing fantastic aurora
borealis was my dream when I was in middle school. Secondly, I had been living in Canada for almost 4 years as an international
student, and I will graduate in December 2012. I want to end my four-year study
with a perfect trip so that I will always remember my fantastic Christmas after
I leave. Thirdly, located around both magnetic poles
of the earth is a halo like ring called an aurora oval. The area directly
beneath each aurora oval is the best place to see the aurora most often.
The cities located under the northern oval include Yellowknife, Canada;
Fairbanks, Alaska and Lapland, Norway. Among these places, Yellowknife
has the least geographical obstructions, such as mountains, to provide a high
percentage of clear weather in the winter which results in a high viewing
probability.
Goal
Preparations
The most important thing for travelling to
Yellowknife is keeping warm! It is very cold there in winter, so we have to
bring enough clothes that can keep us warm. Another very important thing is
camera, as a photographer, my boyfriend will never forget to bring his camera
with him. We will take a lot of beautiful pictures to record the great moment!
Beautiful aurora will appear on a clear day,
so watching the weather in Yellowknife is important, even though the weather is
not as accurate as the forecast, it is still a necessary procedure. There is a
website to forecast the aurora as well.
